A 20-year-old Manorville man was charged with murder after police said he stabbed another man in the back during an altercation Monday afternoon in Medford.
Joseph Norton allegedly stabbed Timothy Stark at approximately 3:30 p.m. on July 20 near Express Drive South and Route 112, according to Suffolk County police.
Police said Norton fled the scene in a vehicle following the stabbing.
Stark, 32, who police described as undomiciled, was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead.
Patrol officers located Norton a short time later at the intersection of Yaphank Avenue and Horseblock Road in Yaphank, police said.
Norton, of 9 Darcy Ave. in Manorville, was charged with second-degree murder following an investigation by Homicide Squad and Sixth Squad detectives.
He was held overnight at the Suffolk County Police Department’s Third Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday, July 21, at First District Court in Central Islip.
Police issued a correction Tuesday identifying Norton as the defendant after portions of the original release listed an incorrect name.
The charge is an accusation. Norton is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
