Man Charged With Murder After Victim Struck About 40 Times With Machete In Uniondale

A 35-year-old man has been charged with murder after police said a dispute at a Uniondale bar ended with a Roosevelt man being struck approximately 40 times with a machete.

Nassau County Police said Jorge Alexander Huezo Villatoro was arrested in connection with the death of Tadeo Alvarado-Chavez, 40, who was found near 979 Nassau Road in Uniondale shortly after 4 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14.

Police initially released few details about the killing, but provided a fuller account following Villatoro’s arrest.

Nassau Police Detective Lt. Daniel Steller said Villatoro and Alvarado-Chavez got into an argument at Frontera Bar on Nassau Road at approximately 2 a.m. Police said Villatoro allegedly punched Alvarado-Chavez during the dispute.

Alvarado-Chavez left the bar but returned about two hours later carrying a machete, according to police. He was disarmed by Villatoro and another person, police said.

Investigators allege that as Alvarado-Chavez walked away, Villatoro obtained another machete and followed him behind the strip mall.

Police said Villatoro then attacked Alvarado-Chavez, striking him approximately 40 times.

Officers responding to a 911 call found Alvarado-Chavez at the scene, where he was pronounced dead by a Nassau County Police medic.

Villatoro was arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead and was ordered held without bail.

If convicted, he faces up to 25 years to life in prison.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911. All callers can remain anonymous.

Villatoro is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
