Man Arrested in Huntington Following Road Rage Strangulation Incident

Suffolk County Police arrested a Central Islip man following a violent road rage altercation that occurred earlier this month in Huntington.

According to police, the incident happened on December 13 at approximately 7:25 a.m. while two motorists were traveling northbound on Broadhollow Road. Investigators said the drivers, identified as Wilson Torres and John Alston III, became involved in a verbal road rage dispute before pulling their vehicles to the side of the road.

Police allege that Alston III exited his vehicle and attacked Torres, strangling him before fleeing the scene in a 2018 Kia Optima. Torres, 41, of Massapequa, who was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Express van, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Following an investigation by Second Precinct Investigative Unit officers and Second Squad detectives, Alston III, 50, of Central Islip, was located and arrested on Park Avenue in Huntington on December 17 at approximately 4:49 p.m.

Alston III was charged with Strangulation in the Second Degree and Assault in the Third Degree. He is being held at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on December 18.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
