Suffolk County police arrested a man accused of stealing power tools from vehicles parked outside several homes in East Northport and Greenlawn early Friday morning, while detectives continue to search for two other people who fled from officers.
Police responded to a home on Lantern Street in Greenlawn at 4:16 a.m. on Aug. 7 after a 911 caller reported multiple people damaging vehicles.
When officers arrived, police said they saw multiple people searching through a vehicle parked in front of the home. The group fled on foot, and officers arrested one person a short time later. Two others escaped and are still being sought.
The arrested man was identified as Bayron Velazco Parody, 30, of Norman Road in New Jersey. He was initially charged with resisting arrest and petit larceny.
A subsequent investigation by Second Squad detectives determined that Velazco Parody was also allegedly responsible for stealing and possessing power tools taken from vehicles parked outside several homes in East Northport and Greenlawn between 2 a.m. and 4:20 a.m., police said.
He was additionally charged with third-degree grand larceny, third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, three counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and three counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
Velazco Parody was being held overnight at the Third Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
