A Long Beach woman has been indicted on charges that she struck and killed a bicyclist in Atlantic Beach and fled the scene without stopping to report the crash, according to the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors said Erin Henry, 67, of Long Beach, was arraigned Wednesday on one count of Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting Resulting in Death, a Class D felony.
Henry pleaded not guilty before Judge Robert Bogle. Bail was continued at $25,000 cash, $50,000 bond, or $125,000 partially secured bond. She is scheduled to return to court on August 11, 2026. If convicted, she faces up to 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison.
According to the indictment, the crash happened at approximately 7:45 a.m. on March 24, 2026, on Beech Street in Atlantic Beach.
Prosecutors allege Henry was driving a 2019 Honda HR-V eastbound on Beech Street while returning home to retrieve belongings she had forgotten for work when she struck 59-year-old Tony Thomas, who was riding his bicycle.
Authorities said Henry continued driving after the collision without stopping to report it.
Witnesses who saw the crash called 911, but Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
Long Beach Police officers identified Henry’s vehicle after witnesses provided her license plate number. Police stopped her a short time later at the intersection of West Park Avenue and Vermont Street in Long Beach, where she was arrested.
“This defendant allegedly struck an innocent man riding his bike, continued driving, and left him to die,” Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said. “Quick thinking witnesses recorded Henry’s license plate, and she was located by police driving to work as if nothing had happened.”
Donnelly also alleged that Henry blamed “a fictitious boulder” for the fatal crash when questioned by police.
The charges are accusations, and Henry is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
