The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Lakeview man in connection with an armed robbery that occurred early Tuesday morning in Hempstead.
According to detectives, Dion Mitchell, 57, of 330 Coventry Road South, entered a 7-Eleven located at 531 Fulton Avenue at approximately 5:00 a.m. on February 3, 2026. Police say Mitchell approached a 20-year-old male employee, displayed a handgun, and demanded money. Fearing for his life, the victim complied and handed over approximately $800 in U.S. currency before the suspect fled the scene on foot.
Following an extensive investigation, Third Squad Detectives, with assistance from the Hempstead Investigations Unit, located Mitchell and placed him under arrest without incident. No injuries were reported.
Mitchell is charged with Robbery in the First Degree and Menacing in the Second Degree. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at First District Court, located at 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
