A Huntington man was arrested after allegedly pointing a handgun at another driver during a road rage confrontation in Melville, Suffolk County police said.
Gary Donnelly, 45, was driving a white 2021 Ford Transit 250 van with ladders on top along Express Drive South near Route 110 at about 2 p.m. Thursday, July 23, police said.
Investigators said Donnelly was driving erratically while engaging in a road rage incident with the driver of a black 2018 Dodge Durango. The vehicles continued south on Route 110 and stopped near Spagnoli Road.
The Durango’s driver, a 26-year-old Freeport man, got out and approached the Ford, according to police. Donnelly allegedly drew a handgun and pointed it at the man.
The man backed away, and Donnelly drove from the area, police said.
Second Squad detectives investigated and arrested Donnelly at his Huntington home at 6:26 p.m., approximately four and a half hours after the confrontation. Police said a loaded firearm was recovered.
Donnelly was charged with second-degree menacing, criminal possession of a firearm and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
He was held overnight at the Third Precinct and was scheduled for arraignment Friday, July 24, at First District Court in Central Islip.
