Home Health Aide Indicted After Allegedly Stabbing 84-Year-Old Patient in Massapequa

A Queens home health aide has been indicted on attempted murder and multiple assault charges after prosecutors say she stabbed her 84-year-old patient in the torso as the woman slept in her Massapequa home, then held the knife in place for 16 minutes before fleeing the scene.

Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced the indictment of Amanda Fraser, 23, who was arraigned before Judge Colin O’Donnell on charges including Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, and multiple counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Vulnerable Elderly Person. Fraser remains remanded and faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted. She is due back in court on December 9, 2025.

According to prosecutors, video evidence shows that at approximately 2:08 a.m. on October 29, 2025, Fraser entered the victim’s bedroom and forcefully drove an eight-inch chef’s knife into the sleeping woman’s torso. The victim awoke moaning in pain and attempted to remove the blade, but Fraser allegedly maintained her grip and kept the knife embedded in the woman’s body for 16 minutes.

Donnelly said Fraser repeatedly urged the victim to “just let go” and “stop fighting it” during the attack. At about 2:24 a.m., Fraser removed the knife and left the home, leaving the elderly woman bleeding alone in her bed.

Police responding to the home around 8:30 a.m. found the victim suffering from a punctured lung and transported her to Nassau University Medical Center. She was treated for an infection caused by the stab wound and remained hospitalized until this week. Officers also discovered Fraser’s Dodge Charger parked in the middle of the victim’s front lawn.

Fraser was arrested later that day in Queens by Nassau County Police. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Bureau Chief Veronica Guariglia of the Homicide Bureau, with oversight from Bureau Chief Jared Rosenblatt and Executive Assistant District Attorney Kevin Higgins. Fraser is represented by Taryn Schechter, Esq.

Authorities emphasized that the charges are accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
