A Hicksville man associated with the MS-13 gang was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint after subjecting her to months of threats, violence and harassment, Nassau County prosecutors said.
Jayden Abadi Alvarado Velasquez, 40, was sentenced Aug. 26 after a jury convicted him in May of predatory sexual assault, weapons possession and several other charges, according to Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly.
Prosecutors said Alvarado Velasquez met the 32-year-old victim at a neighborhood deli on Aug. 26, 2023. The next day, he went to her apartment and threatened her at gunpoint, beginning what prosecutors described as a months-long pattern of abuse.
Over the following weeks, authorities said Alvarado Velasquez repeatedly abused, threatened and harassed the woman. The conduct ultimately culminated in a sexual assault at gunpoint.
On Nov. 26, 2023, prosecutors said Alvarado Velasquez smashed the victim’s cellphone and physically assaulted her during an altercation inside her vehicle.
He then drove her to a psychiatric center in Brentwood, where prosecutors said he threatened to cut off her hand and claimed he had killed a former girlfriend and buried her on the property. He also threatened to kill the victim and bury her there, according to the district attorney’s office.
Alvarado Velasquez later drove the woman back to his Hicksville home, where prosecutors said he sexually assaulted her.
Three days later, on Nov. 29, prosecutors said he sent the victim intimidating text messages that included a video showing two firearms he had previously used to threaten her.
Nassau County police searched Alvarado Velasquez’s bedroom later that day and recovered a handgun, a magazine, ammunition and multiple New York state identification cards bearing his photograph but different names, prosecutors said.
Detectives also recovered a loaded handgun, magazine and ammunition from a jacket Alvarado Velasquez was wearing at the time.
He was arrested Nov. 29, 2023, by the Nassau County Police Department’s Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team.
A jury convicted Alvarado Velasquez on May 6 of predatory sexual assault, three counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, attempted second-degree assault, two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree assault and aggravated harassment.
“The terror, manipulation, and violence that Jayden Abadi Alvarado Velasquez inflicted on his victim have finally come to an end,” Donnelly said.
Donnelly credited the victim’s decision to come forward with helping end the abuse and said the sentence ensures Alvarado Velasquez “can no longer hurt her.”
Judge Robert McDonald imposed the 25-years-to-life prison sentence.
