An East Norwich man who is the grandson of notorious Gambino crime family boss John Gotti was arrested after police said he assaulted a woman and obstructed her breathing during a domestic dispute.
According to Nassau County police, officers responded to a Mill River Road residence in East Norwich at approximately 10:20 p.m. on June 2 following a report of a domestic disturbance.
Detectives said Carmine Gotti Agnello, 40, became involved in a verbal argument with a 29-year-old woman inside the home. Police alleged the dispute escalated into a physical confrontation during which Gotti Agnello slapped and punched the woman multiple times.
Investigators further alleged that Gotti Agnello grabbed the victim around the neck and applied pressure, making it difficult for her to breathe.
Police said he also smashed the victim’s cellphone on the ground, causing it to break.
The woman left the residence and contacted police.
Following an investigation, detectives located Gotti Agnello on June 3 at approximately 8 p.m. and arrested him without incident.
Gotti Agnello is charged with Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, Assault in the Third Degree and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing.
He was scheduled to be arraigned June 4 at First District Court in Hempstead.
The arrest comes just months after Gotti Agnello received a federal prison sentence in an unrelated fraud case. Earlier this year, he was sentenced in federal court after admitting his role in a scheme involving fraudulent business loans, according to federal prosecutors.
The charges in the Nassau County case remain allegations, and Gotti Agnello is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
