First Responders Deliver Baby Girl on Side of the Road in Eastport Early Tuesday Morn

A Suffolk County police officer and two East Moriches Rescue responders helped deliver a baby girl inside a vehicle parked on the side of a road in Eastport early Tuesday morning.

According to Suffolk County Police, officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 4:13 a.m. on June 16 reporting a woman in active labor in the passenger seat of a Nissan Pathfinder parked along southbound County Road 51.

Seventh Precinct Officer Amanda Brisson arrived first and assisted the mother as she prepared to give birth inside the vehicle. When East Moriches Rescue personnel arrived, Paramedic Steven Diamantopoulos and EMT Ben Cohen took over and successfully delivered the baby girl.

Police said the mother, a 22-year-old Riverhead resident, and her newborn daughter were transported in good condition to Stony Brook University Hospital by East Moriches Rescue ambulance for further evaluation. The ambulance was driven by Origen Symes.

The delivery took place on the shoulder of County Road 51 in Eastport after the mother went into active labor before reaching a hospital.
