Farmingdale Man Accused of Chasing Man With Machete, Robbing Teen

A Farmingdale man was arrested after police said he threatened a woman with a box cutter, chased a man down the street with a machete and robbed a 15-year-old boy Wednesday night.

Saul Sanchez, 45, was arrested following the Oct. 7 incident on Colombia Street in Farmingdale, Nassau County police said.

Police said Sanchez and a 36-year-old woman had been involved in a verbal argument earlier in the day. During the dispute, Sanchez allegedly displayed a box cutter and threatened the woman before leaving on foot.

The woman then asked her 21-year-old son to help change the locks on the doors, police said.

Sanchez later returned and began arguing with the 21-year-old, according to police. The confrontation became physical, and Sanchez allegedly struck the man in the head and broke his chain.

Police said Sanchez then retrieved a machete from his vehicle and chased the man down the street.

During the chase, Sanchez allegedly approached a 15-year-old boy, threatened him and demanded his black bag. The teen complied, and Sanchez fled on foot, police said.

The 15-year-old called 911 because he feared for his safety, according to police.

Officers located Sanchez a short time later and arrested him without incident. No injuries were reported.

Sanchez is charged with first-degree robbery, two counts of third-degree menacing, third-degree criminal mischief and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, Oct. 8, at First District Court in Hempstead.
