East Islip Contractor Arrested After Stony Brook Renovation Left Unfinished

An East Islip contractor was arrested Monday after allegedly accepting payment for home improvements and stopping work before the renovations were completed, Suffolk County police said.

Michael Specchio, 48, was charged with third-degree grand larceny and operating as an unlicensed contractor following an investigation by Sixth Squad detectives.

Police said a woman hired M3 Development Group Inc. on Jan. 8 to perform renovations at her Stony Brook home. Specchio allegedly completed only part of the project before stopping work.

Detectives arrested Specchio at the Sixth Precinct at approximately 3 p.m. on July 20. Investigators also determined that his Suffolk County contractor’s license had expired, according to police.

Specchio was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.

Police are asking anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Specchio to call 631-852-COPS, or 631-852-2677.

Anonymous tips may also be submitted by calling Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS, using the P3 Tips mobile app or visiting P3Tips.com.

A criminal charge is an accusation. Specchio is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
