Brooklyn Man Shot in Foot, Arrested After Firing Back at SUV in Central Islip

A 39-year-old Brooklyn man was shot in the foot and then arrested after police said he fired multiple shots at an SUV in Central Islip early Saturday morning.

Suffolk County police said Demetrius Williams was retrieving items from a parked vehicle on Hawthorne Avenue near Feller Drive at about 6:10 a.m. on Aug. 15 when a gray SUV drove past.

An unknown person inside the SUV fired two shots at Williams, striking him in the foot, according to police.

Williams then ran after the SUV and fired multiple shots at the vehicle, police said.

Third Precinct officers responded to 221 Hawthorne Ave. and arrested Williams as he was attempting to flee in an alleyway, according to police.

Williams was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police charged Williams with first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He was being held at the Third Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday, Aug. 16, at First District Court in Central Islip.
