BRAVE BOY HIDES FROM BURGLAR, CALLS COPS AS SUSPECT RANSACKS MEDFORD HOME

A man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly burglarizing a Medford home while a 12-year-old inside hid and called police, Suffolk County authorities said.

According to police, the child was alone inside his Eagle Avenue home at approximately 12:50 p.m. when he heard glass breaking in the kitchen and movement inside the residence. The boy jumped out of his bedroom window, observed an unknown man inside the house, and hid in the backyard while calling 911.

Sixth Precinct patrol officers responded within three minutes and found the suspect inside the home after he had allegedly broken a kitchen window to gain entry. The child was not injured.

Police identified the suspect as Christian Garcia, 53, who is undomiciled. Garcia was charged with third-degree burglary and possession of burglar’s tools. He is being held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on December 24.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact Sixth Squad detectives at 631-854-8652.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
