Bohemia Pair Charged in Commack Chase Bank Robbery, 3 Other Suffolk Robberies

Suffolk County police arrested two Bohemia residents in connection with the August robbery of a Chase Bank in Commack and charged them in three other robberies and an attempted robbery across Suffolk County.

Randy Hill, 48, and Donna Hovanec, 45, were arrested Thursday and each charged with third-degree robbery in connection with the Aug. 14 bank robbery, police said.

The arrests are an update to the Commack robbery previously reported by LI True Crime.

Police said a man entered the Chase Bank at 39 Vanderbilt Motor Parkway at about 4:45 p.m. Aug. 14, handed a teller a note demanding cash and fled on foot after the teller complied.

Hill and Hovanec were also each charged with three counts of first-degree robbery in connection with robberies at a Dollar Tree on North Service Road in East Patchogue on Aug. 16, a Dollar Tree on Route 112 in Medford on Aug. 22 and a Starbucks on Sunrise Highway in Bohemia on Sept. 2.

Both were additionally charged with attempted first-degree robbery in connection with an Aug. 25 incident at Sunoco Dix Hills Tire and Auto on Deer Park Road, police said.

Police said Hill was being held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip. Hovanec was expected to be arraigned at a later date.
