SEAFORD, N.Y. — A Seaford man is facing felony drug charges after Nassau County police allegedly found 70 glassine envelopes containing suspected drugs during an e-bike stop in Seaford.
Thomas Coyle, 47, was arrested Oct. 1 after officers with the Nassau County Police Department’s Bureau of Special Operations stopped him while he was riding an e-bike on the sidewalk near Merrick Road and Seaford Avenue, according to published reports and court records.
Published reports said police recovered 70 glassine envelopes containing a white powder believed to be heroin.
Coyle was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to New York court records. He was also charged with unlawful operation or parking of an e-bike on a sidewalk and a Nassau County bicycle ordinance violation.
Court records describe one of the felony counts as criminal possession of a narcotic drug and the other as third-degree criminal possession of a narcotic drug with intent to sell. The court database lists “crack” in the drug field for the controlled-substance charges, while published reports described the substance seized by police as suspected heroin.
Coyle was arraigned Oct. 2 in Nassau District Court, pleaded not guilty and was released with non-monetary conditions, court records show.
He is represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County.
Coyle is scheduled to return to Nassau District Court in Mineola at 9 a.m. Oct. 29 before Judge Anthony William Paradiso for an indictment control appearance.
