Bay Shore Man Charged After 65-Year-Old Stabbed in Neck at Amityville Church

A Bay Shore man was arrested after police said he stabbed a 65-year-old man in the neck during a meeting in the basement of an Amityville church.

Daniel Escobar, 33, was charged with first-degree assault following the stabbing at First United Methodist Church, 25 Broadway, at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, Suffolk County Police said.

Police said Escobar stabbed the man in the neck during a meeting and then fled.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Following an investigation by First Squad detectives, Escobar was located on Ackerson Boulevard in Bay Shore and taken into custody at approximately 10:22 p.m., police said.

Escobar was held overnight at the First Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 12 at First District Court in Central Islip.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
