A 17-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a car while crossing Route 25A in Mount Sinai early Thursday, Suffolk County police said.
The crash happened near Chestnut Street at about 12:55 a.m. on Aug. 20.
Police said Ayden Vagner, 18, of Miller Place, was driving a 2020 Acura westbound in the left lane of Route 25A and approaching Chestnut Street when the vehicle struck Yerlin Amaya, who was crossing the road.
Amaya, 17, of Mount Sinai, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Vagner was not injured, police said.
The Acura was impounded for a safety check as Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives continue to investigate the crash.
