A 19-year-old Hempstead man was arrested Tuesday night after Nassau County police said officers recovered a loaded firearm during a traffic stop in Hewlett.
According to Fourth Squad detectives, members of the Strategic Response Team (SRT) were on patrol at approximately 8:05 p.m. on June 23 when they conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop involving a gray 2011 Infiniti sedan on Peninsula Boulevard near Franklin Avenue.
Police said the investigation led officers to recover a loaded firearm from the vehicle.
The driver, identified as Jair Perry, 19, of Hempstead, was taken into custody without incident.
Perry is charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
He was scheduled to be arraigned on June 24 at First District Court in Hempstead.
