Greenlawn Man Arrested After Woman Seriously Injured in Overnight Shooting

A Greenlawn man has been arrested after Suffolk County police said he shot a woman during a domestic-related incident early Thursday morning, leaving her seriously injured.

According to Suffolk County Police, the shooting occurred on Leigh Street in Greenlawn at approximately 12:52 a.m. on June 4. Investigators said a 40-year-old woman was shot by a man, who then fled the scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Police have not released an update on her condition.

Following an investigation, Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives, assisted by New York State Police Troop T and the New Rochelle Police Department, arrested Eric Giovanni Whilby at approximately 8:40 a.m. on Pelham Road in New Rochelle.

Whilby, 37, of Greenlawn, was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Police said he will be held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday, June 5, at First District Court in Central Islip.

The investigation remains ongoing.
