Franklin Square Man Charged in $158K Diamond Fraud Case

A Franklin Square man is facing felony charges after Nassau County police said he received a package containing approximately $158,000 worth of fraudulently purchased diamonds.

Wilfredo Franco Ramirez, 42, was arrested on May 29 at about 7:08 p.m. by detectives assigned to the Nassau County Police Department’s Electronics Squad and Fraud & Forgery Section.

According to police, Ramirez knowingly accepted a package containing natural loose diamonds that had been obtained through fraudulent purchases. Investigators said the diamonds were valued at approximately $158,000.

Police said Ramirez was taken into custody without incident and no injuries were reported.

Ramirez was charged with second-degree grand larceny and first-degree scheme to defraud.

Court records show the alleged incident occurred on May 22, 2026. Ramirez was arraigned on May 30 in Nassau District Court before Judge Anthony William Paradiso. He pleaded not guilty and was released on his own recognizance.

According to court records, Ramirez is scheduled to return to court on June 16 for an indictment control appearance.
