STEHLI BEACH

Two juveniles were arrested after Nassau County police said they used a metal bat and lacrosse stick to damage a vehicle and threaten drivers during a confrontation near Stehli Beach in Bayville.

According to Second Squad detectives, the incident began around 3:52 p.m. Monday, May 25, at Stehli Beach, located at 10 Bayville Road.

Police said a 38-year-old man saw two male juveniles throwing garbage on the ground in the beach parking lot while he sat inside his 2009 Ford F-250. After the victim questioned their behavior, the teens allegedly responded disrespectfully and the man decided to leave the area.

Detectives said the juveniles then entered a 2021 Mercedes-Benz and accelerated past the victim’s truck before cutting him off at the park entrance.

Police said a 17-year-old male got out of the driver’s seat and retrieved a lacrosse stick from the trunk while a 16-year-old male exited the rear driver’s side and took out a white metal bat. Both allegedly struck the front of the Ford multiple times.

As the victim attempted to back away, detectives said the teens continued advancing toward the truck. The victim was able to leave the park entrance, but police said the suspect armed with the lacrosse stick struck the passenger side of the vehicle several more times, causing additional damage.

A short time later, police said the same suspects, driving the same Mercedes-Benz, cut off a 25-year-old woman traveling eastbound near Mountain Avenue before abruptly braking in front of her vehicle.

Detectives said one of the males exited the rear driver’s side of the Mercedes and approached the woman’s Jeep. As she drove around the vehicle, police said the suspect struck the Jeep’s rear passenger-side window, though no damage was reported.

Following an investigation, both juveniles were arrested.

They are charged with Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, Menacing in the Second Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree and Menacing in the Third Degree.

The defendants are scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court Youth Part in Hempstead.
