Suffolk County authorities are asking for the public’s help identifying the owner or person who abused a dog found in Port Jefferson earlier this month.
According to Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Biological, Environmental and Animal Safety Team, known as BEAST, a 1- to 3-year-old male Yorkshire Terrier mix was found on Belle Terre Road at about 11 a.m. May 14.
Authorities said the dog was emaciated and had its mouth tightly rubber-banded shut when it was found.
The dog is currently at Brookhaven Animal Shelter, officials said.
Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information can submit an anonymous tip by calling 1-800-220-TIPS, using the P3 Tips mobile app or going to P3Tips.com.
All calls, text messages and emails will be kept confidential, authorities said.
