Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating an assault that sent a man to the hospital Sunday morning in Stony Brook.
Police said the incident happened at approximately 9:40 a.m. in the parking lot of 2162 Nesconset Highway following a verbal dispute between two men.
During the confrontation, one of the men was assaulted and suffered injuries serious enough to require hospitalization. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Police have not released details about the nature or severity of the injuries.
The suspect fled the scene and had not been arrested as of Sunday evening.
The incident drew significant attention online throughout the day, with residents discussing reports of a possible stabbing in local Facebook groups. Several commenters claimed the violence happened near businesses including Strathmore Bagels and Planet Fitness, while others reported seeing a heavy police presence in the area later in the morning.
