A Queens man accused of breaking into homes across Nassau County and stealing jewelry, designer handbags and cash was arrested Tuesday night and is also wanted on a burglary warrant out of Texas, according to Nassau County police.

The Nassau County Major Case Squad said Mario Hurtado Galindo, 37, of Queens, was taken into custody on May 5 at approximately 9:15 p.m. following what detectives described as an extensive investigation into a series of residential burglaries.

Police said the burglaries occurred in New Hyde Park, Westbury, Bethpage, Woodmere and Roslyn Heights.

According to detectives, Hurtado Galindo unlawfully entered multiple homes and stole assorted jewelry, designer handbags and U.S. currency from inside the residences.

Authorities said he was located and arrested without incident.

Hurtado Galindo has been charged with six counts of second-degree burglary and six counts of third-degree criminal mischief.

Police also said he had an active burglary warrant out of Richmond, Texas.

Further investigation determined Hurtado Galindo is allegedly in the United States illegally and is now subject to removal proceedings, according to police.

Second-degree burglary is a felony offense in New York that can carry significant prison time if a defendant is convicted.

Hurtado Galindo was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, May 6, at First District Court in Hempstead.
