What started as routine customer service calls turned into something far more calculated.
Police say a man posing as legitimate bank customers was able to quietly take control of multiple accounts, changing key details and setting a plan in motion that would take months to uncover.
According to Nassau County detectives, the scheme targeted accounts through the Chase Bank customer service line. Investigators say the suspect repeatedly called in, impersonating account holders, and successfully changed mailing addresses tied to the accounts.
Once those addresses were updated, debit cards were sent directly to him.
From there, police allege, the withdrawals began.
Over a span of nearly three months, from November 2025 through January 2026, authorities say 110 unauthorized transactions were made, draining approximately $55,000 from victims’ accounts.
The investigation led detectives to a home on Bixby Drive in Baldwin, where 26-year-old Paras Javed was identified as the suspect.
He was taken into custody on April 2 without incident.
Javed now faces multiple charges related to identity theft and fraud. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead.
As with all cases, the charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
