Driver Pleads Guilty to Killing Jogger While Fleeing Police in Wyandanch Crash

What began as a traffic stop in Wyandanch quickly turned into a fatal crash that left a jogger dead in the roadway.

Prosecutors say 24-year-old Jason Jean-Joseph of West Babylon was driving a 2018 BMW on June 13, 2025, just before 7:30 p.m., when police attempted to pull him over.

Instead of stopping, authorities say he fled.

With a suspended license, Jean-Joseph accelerated onto Wyandanch Avenue, where he struck 29-year-old Hillel Fuld, a New York City man who was out jogging.

Fuld was critically injured and later pronounced dead at Good Samaritan University Hospital.

Police say Jean-Joseph continued driving after the crash, leaving the scene without stopping to check on the victim.

Investigators say he later abandoned the BMW in Babylon and fled on foot, discarding a loaded 9mm handgun with a high-capacity magazine in a wooded area south of John Street.

He was arrested on August 29, 2025, following an investigation by Suffolk County police.

On March 31, 2026, Jean-Joseph pleaded guilty to multiple charges tied to the crash and aftermath, including manslaughter, assault, multiple weapon possession charges, leaving the scene, fleeing police, and tampering with evidence.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 1, 2026.
