Man Accused of Knifepoint Robbery at Suffolk County Community College in Selden

A Holtsville man has been arrested after police say he robbed a woman at knifepoint inside a building at Suffolk County Community College in Selden Tuesday night.

According to Suffolk County Police, the incident occurred at approximately 6:40 p.m. at a building located at 533 College Road on the Selden campus of Suffolk County Community College.

Police said Mitchell Taylor, 32, entered the building armed with a knife and approached a 29-year-old woman, demanding her wallet and jacket. The woman complied with the demand, and Taylor fled the scene. Authorities said the victim was not injured during the robbery.

Following an investigation, Sixth Squad detectives identified Taylor as the suspect and arrested him at his home on Long Island Avenue in Holtsville early Wednesday morning at approximately 1:05 a.m.

Taylor was charged with Robbery in the First Degree. He was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 4.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
