Seven juveniles were arrested Wednesday after a BMW SUV reported stolen from a Baldwin railroad parking lot fled police and crashed into a NICE bus in Roosevelt, Nassau County police said.
The incident began around 3:35 p.m. Oct. 28, when a 39-year-old woman reported that her 2020 BMW SUV had been taken without permission from a Long Island Rail Road parking lot in Baldwin.
Police located the vehicle a short time later on Grand Avenue in South Hempstead. Officers attempted to stop the SUV for a vehicle and traffic law violation, but the driver fled, police said.
The SUV subsequently crashed into a NICE bus near Nassau Road and West Centennial Avenue in Roosevelt.
Police said the BMW was driven by a 14-year-old boy and carried six other teenage passengers.
All seven juveniles were taken into custody and transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The 14-year-old driver was charged with second-degree criminal possession of stolen property and third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle. He was scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 29 in Nassau County Family Court.
The six passengers were each charged with third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle and released on appearance tickets, police said.
Nassau County Police Department’s First Squad investigated the incident.
