GREAT NECK, N.Y. — Two teenagers were arrested after police said they yelled bias-related insults at people walking along Middle Neck Road in Great Neck, then returned minutes later and sprayed the group with a liquid believed to be water from a water gun.
The male juveniles, ages 16 and 17, were riding in a black Hyundai Tucson around midnight Saturday, Aug. 8, when they allegedly began yelling the insults at people on the sidewalk, according to Nassau County police.
Police said the teens drove away but returned several minutes later and continued yelling bias-related insults at the same group.
The juveniles then allegedly sprayed a liquid believed to be water from a water gun, striking members of the group. Police said the victims feared for their safety and fled the sidewalk. No injuries were reported.
Nassau police did not disclose what was allegedly said or specify the nature of the bias involved.
Detectives identified the two juveniles during an investigation and arrested them Wednesday, Aug. 12, police said. Their names were not released because of their ages.
Each was charged with two counts of third-degree menacing and two counts of second-degree aggravated harassment.
The teens were issued appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in Nassau County Family Court at a later date.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
