Two New York City men are accused of scamming a 92-year-old Central Islip man out of more than $250,000 by falsely claiming he had won a multimillion-dollar sweepstakes prize, Suffolk County police said.

According to investigators, the elderly victim received a call in December 2025 telling him he had won $18 million in the Publisher’s Clearing House sweepstakes. The caller allegedly instructed the man to complete paperwork and pay taxes and fees in order to collect the prize.

Over the course of multiple phone calls, the victim was told to write personal checks, withdraw cash and obtain cashier’s checks from his bank account. Police said the initial loss is estimated to exceed $250,000.

Following an investigation by the Suffolk County Police Financial Crimes Unit, with assistance from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and the NYPD Financial Crimes Task Force, detectives identified Oral Durloo, 31, of Brooklyn, and Brandon Nairne, 31, of Queens, as suspects.

Durloo and Nairne were arrested Friday and charged with Grand Larceny in the Second Degree. They are being held overnight at the Third Precinct in Bay Shore and are scheduled to be arraigned February 14 at First District Court in Central Islip.

Police are asking anyone who believes they may have been victimized by the defendants to contact authorities.

A criminal charge is an accusation. The defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
