Shots Fired During Dispute in Huntington Station Parking Lot, Police Say

Suffolk County Police are investigating after shots were fired during a dispute involving a group of men in a Huntington Station parking lot Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of a small strip shopping center at 953 New York Ave. in Huntington Station, home to several businesses including a deli/convenience store, Chinese restaurant and laundromat.

Police said the gunfire occurred during a dispute involving several men. Detectives believe two of the men knew each other. No one was injured, police said.

The investigation brought a heavy police presence to the New York Avenue shopping center, where the area was cordoned off with police tape. Police activity in the broader area also prompted precautionary security measures at schools in the Huntington and Harborfields districts Tuesday morning.

The incident generated significant discussion in local community groups, where residents reported seeing numerous police vehicles, police dogs, yellow tape and news crews. Some social media posts also claimed that someone had been shot. But police have since confirmed that no one was injured.

No arrests have been made, and Second Squad detectives are continuing to investigate.
