A Selden man has pleaded guilty after prosecutors said he struck and killed a pedestrian, moved her body from the roadway, and fled the scene without calling for help.
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney announced that Lan Huynh Truong, 45, pleaded guilty to Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting Resulting in Death in connection with the death of Victoria Hutson, 37, of Selden.
According to prosecutors, the crash happened on Nov. 5, 2025, at approximately 11:21 a.m. on Boyle Road in Selden. Authorities said Truong was driving a 2016 Toyota Camry northbound when he swerved onto the right shoulder and struck Hutson as she was walking.
Prosecutors said Truong got out of the vehicle, dragged Hutson from the roadway onto the shoulder, then left the scene without reporting the crash or rendering aid. Good Samaritans attempted to help the victim, but she died at the scene.
Later that evening, Suffolk County police located the Toyota Camry behind Truong’s residence. Investigators observed blood on the windshield, passenger-side door, and passenger-side window. The vehicle was seized, and testing by the Suffolk County Crime Laboratory determined the blood belonged to Hutson, according to prosecutors.
Truong was arrested on Nov. 6, 2025.
In announcing the plea, Tierney criticized the penalties available under New York’s leaving-the-scene law.
“After hitting Victoria Hutson with his car, this defendant dragged her body off of the roadway and left her to die without reporting the incident to police or rendering any form of aid,” Tierney said. “At the defendant’s sentencing, we will be recommending the maximum sentence allowable under the law for leaving the scene.”
On June 15, Truong pleaded guilty to Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting, a Class D felony, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a License, a traffic infraction, before Suffolk County Supreme Court Justice John B. Collins.
Prosecutors said Truong was previously convicted of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated in 2016 and Driving While Intoxicated in 2012.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 12, 2026. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office is seeking the maximum sentence permitted under current state law: 2⅓ to 7 years in prison.
