Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly broke into a Merrick elementary school and stole 26 Apple iPads during a late-night burglary.
According to Nassau County police, officers responded to Chatterton Elementary School, located at 108 Merrick Road, after the burglary was discovered. Detectives said the incident occurred at approximately 10:55 p.m. on Sunday, June 14.
Investigators determined that an unknown individual entered the school through an unlocked rear window. Police said the suspect damaged window screens, causing approximately $300 in damage, before gaining access to the building.
Once inside, the suspect allegedly stole 26 Apple iPads and then fled the scene in an unknown direction.
No description of the suspect was provided.
The investigation remains ongoing.
