Exciting news for fans of Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games series! A new novel, Sunrise on the Reaping, is set to be published on March 18, 2025. This fifth installment will transport readers back to Panem, twenty-four years before the original series, delving into the dramatic events of the Fiftieth Hunger Games, known as the Second Quarter Quell.
Sunrise on the Reaping explores the themes of power and propaganda, inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission. Suzanne Collins aims to provoke thought about the ease with which the few govern the many, a concept resonating strongly in today’s world.
The news of the book comes with the promise of a new movie as well. AP is reporting that Lionsgate, the studio behind the film adaptations of all four previous Hunger Games books, announced on Thursday that Sunrise on the Reaping will hit theaters on November 20, 2026. Francis Lawrence, who directed all but the first Hunger Games movie, will return to helm this new installment.
