Nassau Cops Rescue Injured Young Osprey After Fall From Nest

NORTH HILLS, N.Y. — Nassau County police rescued an injured young osprey Thursday afternoon after the federally protected bird fell from its nest in North Hills, police said.

Sixth Precinct officers responded to a 911 call at about 4:45 p.m. Aug. 13 reporting an injured bird at 99 South Service Road.

When officers arrived, they found the young osprey injured after falling from its nest. Police safely secured the bird and contacted the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

A wildlife rehabilitator licensed by New York State and the federal government transported the osprey to a rehabilitation facility.

Police said the bird will be treated for its injuries and eventually released back into the wild.
