MIDDLE ISLAND, NY — Police provided an update Saturday on a crash that led to a DWI arrest in Middle Island, saying 44-year-old James Baldassarri of Holtsville has died from his injuries.

Baldassarri was seriously injured early Wednesday, Aug. 27, when a vehicle driven by Noah Slusser, 21, of Medford, struck a parked Toyota on Wilson Drive, Suffolk County police said.
Police said Slusser was driving south on Wilson Drive at about 12:05 a.m. when his vehicle struck the Toyota, which was parked in front of 26 Wilson Drive.
Baldassarri, who was inside the Toyota, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. Police announced Aug. 29 that he had died from those injuries.
A second occupant of the Toyota, Crystal Springman, 27, of Middle Island, was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Police arrested Slusser following the crash and charged him with driving while intoxicated. He was scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 27 at First District Court in Central Islip.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating the crash and asked anyone with information to call 631-854-8652.
