Man Killed, Son Seriously Injured in Huntington Station House Fire

A man was killed and his son was seriously injured in a house fire late Sunday night in Huntington Station, Suffolk County police said.

Second Precinct officers responded to a 911 call reporting a fire at a residence on Depot Road at approximately 11:15 p.m. on December 14. Five fire departments responded to the scene and worked to extinguish the blaze.

Barry Garfman, 82, a resident of the home located at 174 Depot Road, was pronounced dead at the scene. His son, Dustin Garfman, 42, who also lived at the residence, was transported to Huntington Hospital before being transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department Homicide Squad and Arson Section are investigating the cause of the fire. Authorities said the incident does not appear to be criminal in nature at this time.

The investigation remains ongoing.
