Man Found Inside Franklin Square Home Charged With Burglary, Headbutting Nassau Sheriff’s Officer

An undomiciled man was arrested after Nassau County police said officers found him sitting inside a Franklin Square home during a reported break-in, and he was later accused of headbutting a sheriff’s officer while awaiting arraignment.

Suhaib Ayman Al Rifai, 32, was arrested Saturday, Oct. 3, after Fifth Precinct officers responded to a burglary in progress at a Jefferson Street residence at about 9:35 a.m., police said.

Officers found Al Rifai sitting inside the home and took him into custody without incident, according to police.

Police said a bedroom window belonging to the 60-year-old female victim had been shattered and additional damage was found throughout the home.

The following day, while Al Rifai was waiting to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead, police said he became combative and headbutted a Nassau County sheriff’s officer, causing pain and physical injury.

Al Rifai was transferred to the Third Precinct to be processed on the additional charges.

He is charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree assault and third-degree assault.
