A man is in custody after Suffolk County Police say he robbed three businesses across Copiague, Amityville, and Farmingdale over the course of several days while displaying what appeared to be a handgun.
According to police, Nehemiah Byers, 24, of Amityville, was arrested by First Precinct Anti-Crime officers on Broadway in Amityville at approximately 9:48 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, shortly after the reported robbery of a Farmingdale business.
Following an investigation by First Squad detectives, Byers was charged with three counts of Robbery in the First Degree for allegedly targeting the following locations:
-
A QuickChek on Sunrise Highway in Copiague on January 25 at about 9:05 p.m.
-
Sunrise Variety on Sunrise Highway in Amityville on January 27 at approximately 6:47 p.m.
-
A BP gas station on Broadhollow Road in Farmingdale on January 27 at about 9:40 p.m.
Police say Byers allegedly fled each location after taking cash from the registers. Investigators report that he displayed what appeared to be a handgun during each robbery.
In addition to the robbery charges, Byers is also charged with Resisting Arrest and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and is expected to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
