Maker Faire Long Island Announces New Date and Location for 2025 at Stony Brook University

The beloved celebration of creativity and invention is heading to a bigger stage. Maker Faire Long Island will return Sunday, September 14, 2025 – this time at Stony Brook University.

After years of colorful chaos and community ingenuity in Port Jefferson, the island’s premiere hands-on tech and arts showcase is packing up its robots, rockets, and 3D printers and heading just a few miles west to one of Long Island’s leading research institutions.

“Bigger builds, brighter ideas, and bold inspiration” — that’s the promise from organizers as they gear up for a new era at Stony Brook. The move opens the door to expanded programming, more makers, and a deeper connection to the region’s innovation ecosystem.

A Shift from Harborfront to High-Tech Hub

Last year, the 7th annual Maker Faire transformed Port Jeff into a playground of invention, drawing over 3,000 visitors to downtown streets and the Village Center. Cosplayers mingled with drone flyers, kinetic sculptures competed for attention with homemade arcade cabinets, and DIYers of all ages tested the limits of what’s possible with a soldering iron and some imagination.

But with growing crowds and even bigger builds, space became a constraint.

Enter Stony Brook University; a setting that offers not just room to grow, but a ready-made audience of curious minds and tech talent.

“We’re excited to partner with a world-class institution that shares our mission to inspire creativity and innovation,” said organizers in the May 12 announcement. “This move gives us the ability to expand our footprint and take the Maker Faire experience to the next level.”

The Maker Movement, Long Island Style

Maker Faire Long Island is part of the global Maker Faire network — sometimes dubbed the “Greatest Show & Tell on Earth.” It’s where engineers, artists, scientists, coders, and kids come together to build, share, and inspire.

Past years have featured everything from underwater drones and Lego coding tables to biohacking talks and blacksmithing demos. And while the venue may change, the mission stays the same: celebrate creativity, curiosity, and hands-on learning.

So, whether you’re a first-timer hoping to solder your first circuit or a veteran maker debuting a fire-breathing dinosaur, mark your calendar. This fall, the island’s biggest celebration of imagination heads to the halls of higher learning.
