Hempstead Pair Arrested After Loaded Gun Found During Farmingdale Traffic Stop

Two Hempstead residents were arrested late Saturday night after Nassau County police recovered a loaded handgun during a traffic stop in Farmingdale.

According to the Nassau County Police Department, officers conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop on a 2017 Hyundai on Conklin Street near Waverly Place at approximately 11:56 p.m. on February 14, 2026.

During the investigation, detectives located a 9mm Ruger handgun inside the vehicle.

Police arrested the driver, Madison Nelson, 22, of Gladys Avenue in Hempstead, and passenger Jakhi Baggett, 19, of West Columbia Street in Hempstead, without incident.

Nelson is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. Baggett is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.

Both defendants were scheduled to be arraigned Sunday, February 15, 2026, at First District Court in Hempstead.

All charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
