A violent family dispute turned deadly before sunrise on a quiet East Northport street.
At 3:42 a.m. Sunday, Suffolk County Police responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing inside a trailer parked in the driveway of 8 Catherine St. in East Northport.
Inside the trailer, police say 61-year-old Joseph Falvo, who lived at the address, had been stabbed multiple times in the living room. Investigators say the accused attacker was not a stranger, but his fiancée’s own grandson.
Falvo was transported to Huntington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to police, the suspect, 18-year-old Noel Bermudez-Chin, also of 8 Catherine St., fled the scene after the stabbing.
He was located a short time later on Laurel Hill Road in nearby Northport, where officers took him into custody.
Bermudez-Chin has been charged with second-degree murder. He was held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 30.
What began as a call for help inside a driveway trailer ended in a fatal confrontation between family members, leaving one man dead and a teenager under arrest just blocks away.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
