Brentwood Man Gets 18 Years for Fatally Shooting 29-Year-Old During Argument

Mugshot of Romero Campbell, 26, of Brentwood, sentenced to 18 years in prison for the 2024 fatal shooting of Joshua Jasmin.

A Brentwood man was sentenced to 18 years in prison Friday, Nov. 6, for fatally shooting a 29-year-old man with a shotgun during an argument outside his home in August 2024, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced.

Romero Campbell, 26, received the sentence after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the death of Joshua Jasmin, 29, also of Brentwood. Campbell will also serve five years of post-release supervision.

According to court documents and Campbell’s admissions during his guilty plea, the shooting occurred at approximately 6 p.m. on Aug. 30, 2024, on the front lawn of Campbell’s home on Charter Oaks Avenue in Brentwood.

Campbell and Jasmin were involved in a verbal dispute when Campbell fired two shots from a shotgun, striking Jasmin in the torso. An eyewitness who observed much of the confrontation told investigators that Jasmin was unarmed.

Police responding to the scene searched Campbell’s property and recovered a shotgun standing against a kitchen doorway and a spent shotgun shell on the kitchen floor.

Campbell was arrested at the scene without incident.

Jasmin was transported to South Shore University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“The defendant caused the senseless death of a 29-year-old victim over a disagreement that should have ended with words and not gunshots,” Tierney said. “Nothing will return Mr. Jasmin to his loved ones, but this sentence ensures that the man responsible for his death is held accountable.”

Campbell pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter, a class B felony, on Sept. 17, 2026, before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis, who imposed the sentence Nov. 6.

Campbell was represented by attorney George Duncan. Assistant District Attorney Eric S. Aboulafia of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Homicide Bureau prosecuted the case.

The investigation was conducted by Detective Peter Barba and retired Detective Brendan O’Hara of the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad.
