A 52-year-old Plainview man was arrested after police said he used a Taser on his 14-year-old autistic son during an emotional outburst, leaving scratches and marks on the teenager’s neck and stomach.

Jin Chang was charged with second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Police said the investigation began when the principal of a middle school in the Plainview area contacted authorities to report injuries observed on the student.

Detectives determined that Chang allegedly used a Taser on his son in an attempt to control him during an emotional outburst. The incident occurred Monday, Oct. 26, at approximately 9:45 p.m. in Plainview.

Chang lived in the home with his son and other family members, police said.

Officers arrested Chang at the residence without incident and removed the Taser from the home.

Chang pleaded not guilty to all three charges at his Oct. 28 arraignment in Nassau District Court. A judge set bail at $50,000 cash, $125,000 insured bond or $250,000 partially secured surety bond and issued a temporary order of protection.

Court records do not indicate whether Chang posted bail.

Chang, who is represented by attorney Marc Craig Gann, is scheduled to return to court Nov. 6 for a conference before Judge Anthony William Paradiso.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
