Man Gets 6 Years for Sexually Abusing 3 Girls at Medford T.J. Maxx

A 44-year-old man was sentenced Friday to six years in prison after admitting he sexually abused three girls, ages 7, 9 and 11, during separate incidents at a T.J. Maxx in Medford, Suffolk County prosecutors said.

Jimmy Harry Velasquezgomez, a Honduran national, pleaded guilty Aug. 27 to three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, all violent felonies. Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis sentenced him Oct. 9 to three concurrent six-year prison terms, followed by 10 years of post-release supervision.

Prosecutors said the first incident happened April 19, 2025, when a 7-year-old girl who was shopping with her mother went to look at toys. Velasquezgomez approached the child and grabbed her buttocks, according to court documents and his admissions during his guilty plea. The girl immediately returned to her mother and told her what happened. Police were called, but Velasquezgomez had already left the store.

On Sept. 20, 2025, an 11-year-old girl was shopping with her parents when she walked away to look for a gift. Prosecutors said the girl saw Velasquezgomez nearby touching his genitals over his clothing. He later walked toward the girl and grabbed her buttocks as he passed her. The child told her parents and the family contacted police.

The third incident occurred Oct. 29, 2025, when a 9-year-old girl was shopping with her mother and walked farther down an aisle to look at toys. Prosecutors said Velasquezgomez approached her, lifted the bottom of her sweatshirt and grabbed her buttocks. The girl ran back to her mother and police were called.

Suffolk County police obtained surveillance video showing Velasquezgomez inside the store on each of the three dates, prosecutors said. Video from the third incident also showed him touching his genitals over his clothing while staring at the 9-year-old girl.

Velasquezgomez was arrested Nov. 1, 2025, in East Islip and has remained in custody since then.

“Every parent should be able to let their young child walk to the next aisle at a store without fear,” Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said. “This defendant violated that basic trust three times, targeting young girls in places where they should have been safe.”

The judge also issued full stay-away orders of protection for each victim and certified Velasquezgomez as a sex offender.

Prosecutors said Velasquezgomez is in the United States illegally. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer seeking custody of him after he completes his prison sentence.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Raso of the Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Bureau. Suffolk County Police Detective Jhon Puentes of the Special Victims Section conducted the investigation.
