ELMONT, N.Y. — An Elmont man was arrested after police said he stabbed a 58-year-old woman, struck her in the head with a flower pot and then attacked an 88-year-old woman with a cane during a dispute Saturday. Faheem Winstead, 31, is charged with first-degree assault, three counts of second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief, Nassau County Police said.
Officers responded to a home on Empire Street at about 1:45 p.m. Oct. 3 for a reported disturbance, according to police. Detectives said Winstead had been involved in a verbal argument with the two women, ages 58 and 88, before the confrontation became physical.
Winstead allegedly stabbed the 58-year-old woman in the leg and struck her in the head with a flower pot, causing a laceration, police said. He then allegedly broke the 88-year-old woman’s bedroom door and struck her with a cane before fleeing, according to detectives. The women called 911 and were taken to a nearby hospital, where both were listed in stable condition.
Police said investigators later located Winstead and arrested him without incident. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Winstead will be arraigned when medically practical, police said.
