A Brentwood man was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in prison for stabbing his ex-wife more than 20 times outside a Bay Shore McDonald’s, one day after she obtained an order of protection against him, prosecutors said.
Willie Curry, 38, was sentenced Sept. 9 after pleading guilty in June to second-degree attempted murder, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney.
The attack happened at about 8:15 a.m. Nov. 2, 2024, while the victim was stopped at the drive-thru window of a McDonald’s in Bay Shore, prosecutors said.
Curry approached her car on an electric bicycle, ran to the open driver’s side window and repeatedly stabbed her with a silver folding knife, according to court documents and Curry’s admissions during his guilty plea.
People in nearby cars and inside the restaurant called 911 and yelled for Curry to stop. The victim eventually drove forward a short distance, and a witness got out of a vehicle and yelled at Curry to leave her alone, prosecutors said.
Another person went to check on the victim while speaking with a 911 operator.
Curry was arrested near the scene shortly after the attack.
The woman suffered more than 20 stab wounds to her neck, face, chest, leg and hands. She was taken to South Shore University Hospital, where she received multiple staples and stitches.
Prosecutors said the victim had obtained an order of protection against Curry in Family Court just one day before the stabbing.
“The victim did everything the system asks of a survivor. She broke ties with the defendant, went to court and obtained an order of protection. One day later, this defendant stabbed her more than 20 times in broad daylight,” Tierney said.
Curry pleaded guilty June 22 before Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei to second-degree attempted murder, a Class B violent felony.
He was sentenced to 15 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.
