A Copiague man was arrested Tuesday after Nassau County police said he deposited approximately $66,000 in fraudulent checks at financial institutions in Plandome Manor and Baldwin earlier this year.
Richard Almonte, 37, was arrested Sept. 1 following an investigation by the Nassau County Police Department’s Electronics Squad, police said.
According to detectives, Almonte deposited fraudulent checks at a financial institution at 27 Gulls Cove in Plandome Manor on Jan. 7 and at Four Leaf Federal Credit Union at 1800 Grand Ave. in Baldwin on Jan. 29.
Police said the checks were valued at approximately $66,000 and caused a financial loss to a Nassau County resident and Four Leaf Credit Union.
Almonte was charged with two counts of third-degree grand larceny, attempted second-degree grand larceny and second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
He was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, Sept. 2, at First District Court in Hempstead.
